Spanish Studies Abroad offers various opportunities for students to gain professional work experience and participate in an internship while they are abroad:

Semester Option

The primary focus of these programs is the student's internship. Students may complete an internship at a local business or organization during the summer or during the semester. All internship programs begin with an intensive language course, and during the semester students may also choose to take a content course alongside their internship.

Internship Course Option

Offered in Alicante, Seville, San Juan, and Córdoba. Students at the advanced Spanish level may undertake an internship for 3-4 credits as part of their regular Spanish Studies Abroad semester program. Internships are treated as a course, in addition to the student's regular course schedule. The Internship Course Option is also available during the summer term in Córdoba.

Practicum in Education

Offered in Seville only. During the second Summer Term in Seville, Spanish Studies Abroad offers this special internship for students interested in education. Students work as Teacher’s Assistants in our Center’s Playschool program for Spanish children aged 4 to 12. In addition to receiving formal instruction in English, the children learn about the U.S. culture through arts & crafts, technology, games and theme week activities. Teacher’s Assistants combine the study of language-acquisition theory with teaching methodology while developing important cultural perspectives on the field of education.
