"Living the Culture"
Courses and Activities - Alicante, Spain
For-Credit Courses
In addition to the core academic courses offered in the Alicante program, you have the opportunity to take "Living the Culture" courses and workshops in the performing arts and physical education. Generally these courses are split into two categories: “CC-CS Living the Culture” and “Living the Culture at Universidad de Alicante.”
CC-CS Living the Culture
Each year, CC-CS chooses a "Living the Culture" course to offer specially to CC-CS students. They are designed for CC-CS students, and require at least 8 enrolled students to run. They are available during the semester and summer programs and carry 1-credit for 15 contact hours. Course topics may include:
- The Culture of Spanish Cuisine
- Beginning Flamenco and Latin Dancing
- Beginning Windsurfing
Living the Culture at Universidad de Alicante
Universidad de Alicante (UA) also offers several for-credit “Living the Culture” course options. These courses are available to all semester students studying at UA and carry 1-3 credits. Past courses have included:
- Flamenco Guitar
- Journeys of Classic Theater Spanish Theater during the Golden Age
- Volleyball and other physical education courses
- Star Gazing (additional fee required)
- Rescue and First Aid (additional fee required)
- SCUBA diving instruction (additional fee required)
These courses are graded Pass/Fail. To sign up for these courses, you may indicate interest on your preregistration form in your CC-CS application. You may also arrange participation in these courses once in Alicante. CC-CS and UA reserve the right to cancel courses.
Not-for-Credit Activities
Through the Centro Superior de Idiomas (CSI) at Universidad de Alicante, you may also participate in affordable non-credit bearing activities, such as joining an athletic team at UA or participating in dance workshops. Activities have included:
- intercambios (language exchanges) with Spanish students
- cultural trips
- dance workshops
- cooking workshops
- Spanish and foreign films
- sports and leisure activities
- international parties
