Intermediate & Advanced Spanish Studies - Alicante, Spain

Students opting to take this 12-week long course of study
attend classes alongside other international students, for whom Spanish is not their first language.

Designed as a language-intensive program at the intermediate to advanced Spanish levels, you will benefit from richly language-focused curriculum, taught by professors at Universidad de Alicante. CC-CS students in this program also benefit from a unique culture course taught by the Resident Director called Social Realities of Spain. This course allows you to synthesize your immersion experience from understanding daily life in the homestay to the historic and sociological foundations of Spain's current social reality.

Intermediate level prerequisite: Two years of high school Spanish/one year of elementary college Spanish or the equivalent
Advanced level prerequisite: One year of intermediate college Spanish or the equivalent
Minimum 3.0 in overall GPA and in Spanish coursework required; exceptions may be made with strong recommendations from faculty

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

The semester begins with an Intensive Language Period. During this time you will study alongside students from the member nations of the European Union and other countries as well. You will enter language courses designed to correspond with the Common European Frame of Reference (CEF), which defines language and cultural competencies across the continent.

During the Continuation Period, you enroll in at least one Language Course and one to two Language & Culture Courses from the list below. Throughout the semester, you also enroll in a Culture Course, specially-designed for CC-CS students.

Intensive Period: 4-5 credit intensive language course (1 language course = 4 cr) (1 optional complementary course = 1 cr)	Continuation Period: 7-10 credit course load Students must select a second language course during the Continuation Period.

Culture Course: Throughout your first semester, you are required to take the 3 credit course, Social Realities of Spain, instructed by the CC-CS Resident Director

Please note that prior to your arrival in Alicante, you must* take an online examination designed and administered by UA. Your initial course assignment for the intensive language period will be based upon your performance on this examination. Once in Alicante, there will be an add/drop period. Depending on your classroom performance during that period, you may be advised to change your level. However, UA will not allow you to enroll in a course that exceeds your level of preparation.
