The Psychology of Learning a Second Language

The Psychology of Learning a Second Language
Offered during Summer Term 1
Taught in English by the esteemed educational scholar and psychologist, Dr. Frank Castrillón, this course focuses on identifying the psychological aspects that facilitate and sometimes impede the learning of a foreign language. Students who enroll in this course are encouraged to apply for the Practicum in Education.

 

 

Practicum in Education
Offered during Summer Term 2
Theoretical study of language acquisition combined with hands-on teacher assistance in the Center's English language program for children. This is a great opportunity for the Education/Spanish student who is looking to acquire some hands-on experience. A separate application is required.

 

 

Seminar for Teachers of Spanish: Culture in the Classroom
Offered during Summer Term 2

This course is designed for teachers of Spanish, as well as university students preparing to teach, who wish to develop professionally through deepening their intercultural knowledge and experiences.

As one of the oldest study abroad programs in Seville, Spain, the Center has a long tradition of providing students with academically rigorous university-level programs, specially designed by experienced CC-CS professors. Courses integrate critical thinking and writing across the curriculum, while focusing on building students' language skills and cultural competency.

Included in the broad range of courses offered by the Center is "Teaching English as a Foreign Language." This course offers an introduction to the theoretical principles, concepts, and terms currently used in foreign language teaching. A practical component provides students with experience in actual classroom management procedures.

Qualified CC-CS students have the opportunity to take advantage of the wide range of facultades (schools) offered by Universidad de Sevilla through the CC-CS Integrated Spanish Studies with Local Students program. After an Intensive Language & Culture Period, designed to prepare you for life and study at Universidad de Sevilla, you take regular university courses alongside local Spanish students.

 

 

Service Learning

Qualified students in either of the Seville semester programs may choose to undertake a Service Learning Project. These projects allow students special access to the daily life of local citizens, often hidden from students studying abroad. Participating students may choose to work in education in the local community, and earn credit for their projects.

 

 

Volunteering in Seville

Volunteer Opportunities and Tutoring Spanish Children

Students in either of the Seville semester programs may choose to undertake a Volunteer Project. Volunteering gives students a chance to get to know the local community and improve their Spanish in the process. Past volunteer projects have been available in schools and non-profit organizations.

Students may also choose to participate in Seville's English Tutoring Program. CC-CS students tutor Spanish children who are learning English. This is a great opportunity to both teach about American culture and learn about Spanish culture from a new perspective.

Intermediate & Advanced Spanish Studies
Early Intermediate to Advanced Spanish

CC-CS offers students the unique opportunity to take courses alongside other international students at Universidad de Alicante (UA) through the Intermediate & Advanced Spanish Studies program. These courses have been adjusted to suit non-native speakers of Spanish, and the semester is tailored to more closely coincide with the regular academic year. Courses include survey courses in Spanish Civilization & Culture, Spanish Literature, Spanish Cinema, and Spanish Art History.

In the Integrated Study Program at Universidad de Alicante (UA), you have the opportunity to take courses alongside Spanish students from UA's many disciplines, including Education, the Humanities, and more. Please note that UA requires that students are proficient in Spanish language before allowing them to enter the Integrated Program.

School of Education at Universidad de Alicante: If you are interested in taking courses alongside native Spanish students and the Spanish academic year fits into your home institution's academic year schedule, you may be interested in choosing the CC-CS Integrated Program at Universidad de Alicante (UA). UA has many facultades (schools) available to CC-CS students interested in taking classes alongside native Spanish students.

Semi-Integrated Spanish Studies with Local Students at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba
Upper Intermediate to Advanced Spanish

The Semi-Integrated Spanish Studies with Local Students program allows students the unique opportunity to take both courses designed for international students studying in Córdoba and integrated courses taken alongside Argentine students at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.

Language & Culture Courses
These courses focus on language acquisition and building cultural competency through Argentine and Latin American survey courses. Course offerings include: Argentine Literature, Argentina and its Regional Diversity, Latin American Culture, Latin American History, and more.

Integrated Courses with Argentine Students
CC-CS students have the opportunity to take up to two courses from Universidad Nacional de Córdoba's wide range of facultades (schools). Disciplines include Education, the Humanities, and more.

Volunteer in the Local Community: Volunteer opportunities give students a chance to get to know the local community and improve their Spanish in the process. Past volunteer projects have been available in schools and non-profit organizations. Making connections through volunteer work is a great opportunity to learn about Argentine culture from a new perspective.
