Oranges Frame the CathedralOffering intensive language work at both the intermediate and advanced levels, this 3 1/2 week term is designed to be taken on its own or as preparation for the Spring Semester Program.

It is ideal for students who have been away from the study of Spanish for some time, or want additional language preparation before entering the Advanced Spanish Studies or Integrated/Semi-Integrated Spanish Studies with Local Students programs. Successful completion of SPAN 204J in the Winter Term permits students to continue in the Spring Advanced Spanish Studies program.
 
PROGRAM INFORMATION:
  • Program dedication to academic excellence
  • Classes meet Monday through Friday for a total of 60 contact hours
  • Average class size: 10-12
  • 4 semester credits 
  • 3.0 GPA in Spanish coursework required
  • Note specific prerequisites for each course
     
COURSES:
All courses are taught in Spanish by highly qualified Spanish university professors with extensive experience in teaching American students.
 
STUDY TRIPS AND CULTURAL VISITS:
CC-CS Winter programs feature all-inclusive program-sponsored excursions to places such as Ronda, Córdoba & the Great Mosque, Úbeda, Baeza, and more! Afternoons offer you study visits within Seville, tertulias, movies, or theater and musical performances.


WINTER TERM COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


SPAN 203J/204J
Intermediate Spanish I, II
Prerequisites: SPAN 203J- Two years of  high school Spanish/one year of elementary college Spanish or the equivalent.
SPAN 204J- Minimum of one semester of intermediate college Spanish or the equivalent. Successful completion of SPAN 204J permits entry into Advanced Spanish Studies for the Spring semester.

SPAN 301J
Advanced Spanish Conversation and Comprehension
Prerequisites: One year of intermediate college Spanish or the equivalent.

SPAN 398J*
The Franco Era: Media Culture and Politics
Prerequisite: Minimum of one course in advanced college Spanish or the equivalent.
 
*SPAN 398J may be taken for guaduate-level credit. See Graduate Credit Options for details.
