The Antonio Machado Family of Seville

Take advantage of this one-time opportunity to study with the dynamic and engaging professor Dr. Rafael Chabrán of Whittier College!
 
Thinking in Andalusian offers a unique opportunity to learn about the culture of Spain and Andalusia through the life and work of the famous and influential sevillano poet Antonio Machado.  Students will look at the Machado family's life and will examine texts dealing with folklore, politics, and philosophy in the cultural context of Seville. Field trips to relevant sites around Seville will complement in-class work.
 
Machado (1875 – 1939) is considered Spain's most influential poet of the 20th century and one of the leading figures of the Spanish literary movement known as the Generation of '98. Click here to read a few of his poems. 
 
Prerequisite: Previous study of Spanish literature required. 
 
3 credits, 45 contact hours
