How to Apply
There are just two
easy steps to your online account with Spanish Studies Abroad.
Application. Once you have completed this initial stage, your
application will be submitted for review. If and when you are accepted to
the program, you will receive an email notification and the Pre-Departure
stage will become available.
- Complete our easy Online Application. (If you would like to complete a paper copy of the application, click here.)
- Be sure to check Application Deadlines
for your program. Admissions to Spanish Studies Abroad are on a rolling
basis, so applying early is always encouraged. Please note that late
applicants may be considered!
- Meet with your Study Abroad Advisor about
your study abroad plans. Your advisor can inform you of any school
deadlines, study abroad requirements and your school's acceptance of Spanish Studies credit.
- Learn more about the Spanish Studies Abroad Scholarship.
Pre-Departure.
Generally you will learn of your acceptance status within 1-2 weeks of Spanish Studies Abroad receiving all of your application materials. Once your application has been
accepted, you will be able to access pre-departure logistics and
information. You must complete this stage, including payments, in order to
confirm your enrollment.
After applying, be sure to:
- Obtain a valid passport if you do not have one yet. To travel abroad, you need a passport valid for six months after your program end date. If you do not have a valid passport, you must apply for one immediately. It can take up to eight weeks to receive your passport, so apply for it right away.
- Confirm visa requirements. Most programs of three months or longer require a visa. Non-U.S. students should verify the visa requirements for their country of nationality immediately upon inquiry into a program.
- Remember to fill out the Internship course option application by the given deadline if you will be adding an Internship or Service Learning option to your study abroad.
Note: An FBI background check may be required for Academic Years students or those staying in Spain for over six months. Please check the visa requirements at your nearest Spanish Consulate to see if this background check will be required, and allow ample time for its completion.
Note: The quality of our student body sets Spanish Studies Abroad apart from other study abroad institutions. Students are required to have a 3.0 GPA in Spanish coursework, although exceptions may be made with strong recommendations from faculty. We reserve the right to reject students based upon their past academic performance and other relevant considerations. Contact the Amherst Office at info[at]spanishstudies.org, if you wish to enumerate any section of your Spanish Studies application.
