Academic Opportunities for High School Students

CC-CS offers high school students the unique opportunity to engage in cultural immersion and Spanish language while obtaining college-level credit. From summer programs to gap semester/academic year experiences, CC-CS encourages students to join us by way of a summer, semester, academic year, or a high school customized program.

Summer Terms in Spain and Argentina

The Center for Cross-Cultural Study offers the opportunity for juniors and seniors in high school to take university level classes for one or two 3 1/2-week summer terms. During each term, students can choose from a variety of courses designed to advance mature, correct expression of Spanish language and critical thinking. Summer terms are available in all three of our program locations:
A study abroad experience with CC-CS involves cultural immersion at every turn, including homestays, support from staff and resident directors, and various cultural activities. CC-CS boasts excellent professors and interesting classes designed for non-native speakers. In-class instruction is enriched with excursions and cultural visits to places of interest.

Gap Semester/Academic Year Abroad

If you are a graduating high school senior who is looking for a meaningful, language-intensive international experience before entering college, or have received mid-year admissions to a college or university, you may want to consider enrolling in a CC-CS University-Level Semester Program during the gap period. Students earn university-level credit, take courses alongside other university students, and participate in all regular program activities and excursions.

Gap semester and academic year programs are available in all three CC-CS program locations:
  • Alicante, Spain- Intermediate & Advanced Spanish Studies: CC-CS works with Universidad de Alicante to offer language and culture courses specifically designed for non-native speakers. CC-CS students have frequent contact with a CC-CS Resident Director, who guides the students through the process of studying abroad and living with a host family. Excursions include a weekend study trip to Granada or Barcelona and guided visits to the historic city center, theater, Castillo de Santa Bárbara, and more. Students may also participate in workshops for credit ranging from Flamenco guitar and percussion to wind surfing and sailing through Universidad de Alicante's Living the Culture program.

  • Seville, Spain- Advanced Spanish Studies: Designed for the advanced student that has completed the equivalent of  intermediate Spanish. The core of the Advanced Spanish Studies program is a choice of courses in Spanish language and culture taught at the Center by native Spanish faculty. You immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture while fulfilling the requirements needed for Spanish, international studies, business and other majors. In addition to living in a Spanish home, you are given the opportunity to participate in a full array of study tours, cultural events, and social activities.

  • Córdoba, Argentina- Advanced Spanish Studies: A semester or year in Córdoba provides students the unique opportunity to study in a city rich in academics and local culture. Students at advanced levels attend classes alongside other international students at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in courses specially designed for non-native speakers. Homestays and regular interaction with local people enhance the cultural immersion experience. CC-CS also engages students in excursions and various cultural activities.
