Argentina Visa Instructions

Students studying abroad in Argentina obtain their student visas in Argentina at the start of their programs. In order to make sure that you will be able to obtain your visa in-country, please follow the following instructions carefully:

Who needs to obtain a student visa:
  • Semester or Academic Year students are required by Argentine law to obtain a student visa.
  • Summer Term students who are U.S. citizens do not need a visa.
  • Students who are not U.S. citizens may need to obtain a visa prior to arriving in Argentina and should consult the local consulate for their home country about visa requirements. Please contact Spanish Studies right away if you think you need to obtain a visa prior to the start of the program.
While in the North America:
  • Make sure that you have a passport that is valid for six months after the end of your program.
  • Budget approximately $100 for visa costs once in Argentina.
  • Students planning to stay in Argentina for an Academic Year should bring with them a certificate of lack of criminal record (legalized by an Argentine consulate in North America or with an apostille). Please consult your student handbook or call Spanish Studies Abroad at (413) 256-0011 for more details.
Reciprocity Fee:
  • Budget approximately $165 for a reciprocity fee charged to all U.S. citizens entering Argentina.  This fee reflects a similar fee charged by the U.S government to Argentine citizens entering the United States. Students who are U.S. citizens must pay this fee; students who are citizens of other countries may have to pay a different fee amount and should check with the Argentine embassy in their country of origin. This fee must be paid before leaving for Argentina and can be paid online at www.provinciapagos.com.ar
  • Once this fee is paid you will need to print your receipt and bring it with you for confirmation of payment. The airline will not allow you to check in without this receipt.
If you have questions about anything, call the Argentine consulate nearest to you and ask.

ALWAYS follow the instructions given to you by your specific consulate over anything you are told by another person or by Spanish Studies Abroad. While we are very familiar with the student visa application, we may not be aware of all the different requirements of each consulate or recent changes to their policies. If you notice conflicting information, do what the consulate tells you.
