Study Abroad in Alicante, Spain

A Spanish Mediterranean Immersion Experience

If you are looking to study abroad in Spain, you will find that the city Alicante provides a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with many opportunities to meet Spanish students and enjoy the local culture. CC-CS students study onsite at Universidad de Alicante, which allows students at any Spanish language level the opportunity to become integrated into Spanish student life.

Alicante, the jewel of the Costa Blanca with beaches stretched along the Mediterranean, is a harbor city that is both rich in history and pleasantly relaxed. The city’s long promenades and endless white beaches have long been guarded by the Castle of Santa Barbara on top of the Benacantil Mountain. The culture, architecture, language and people have all been shaped by the traders and conquerors – Phoenicians, Greeks, Roman and Arabs – who left their imprint on this axis of trading routes over the centuries.

The kilometers of beaches, the civil and architectural legacy of the historic quarter, and the varied cuisine of the area are the main reasons Alicante is a major tourist destination for Spaniards. The city is also alive at night and during traditional regional holiday periods, like the Moorish and Christian festivities and the papier-mâché bonfires on the Night of San Juan in late June.

CC-CS in Alicante, Spain

CC-CS students in Alicante study onsite at Universidad de Alicante (UA).  Though established in 1979, UA was founded to carry on the traditions of the University of Orihuela (1545-1834).  As the fastest-growing university in Spain, with an enrollment of 33,000, the UA is dedicated to its mission of cultivating students' academic and professional skills, while developing critical thinking and social awareness. In addition to its academics, UA prides itself on its beautiful modern campus of innovative architecture and wide green spaces.

Along with the resources provided by UA, CC-CS students benefit from having an on-site Resident Director who teaches the CC-CS cultural integration course "Social Realities of Spain," assists students with cultural and logistical challenges of studying abroad, and organizes CC-CS site visits and events.

Through university coursework, homestays with native families, and multiple cross-cultural opportunities, students will find CC-CS in Alicante to be a highly immersive and integrated study abroad experience.
